A Tribute to Andy Headworth

2017 UK Recruiter Blogger of the Year

It was with immense sadness that I learned of the death of Andy Headworth last week. The news was shocking and unexpected, and the loss is deeply felt across our community, and of course within his devoted and loving family.

I had the privilege of knowing Andy, and his wonderful wife Sara, since 2007. From the very beginning, he stood out as someone who was truly knowledgeable in social media (back in the early days when everyone was floundering!), recruitment strategy, candidate care and many other areas of the recruitment space. But more than that, he was always generous, always encouraging – lifting others up along the way. He won our Blog of the Year award twice (2014 and 2015), and in true Andy fashion, he then stepped up to share his expertise by becoming my Head Judge.

Andy spoke at so many of my events over the years, and each time he brought insight, clarity, and humour. He was a regular on the speaker circuit for many years – always with a fresh angle. Beyond the stage, he was always there with wise advice, a generous spirit, and a willingness to give his time and knowledge freely. I genuinely knew he wanted others to thrive, and the time he gave me in the early days of UK Recruiter was invaluable.

I will remember Andy not just for his expertise, but for his kindness, his generosity, and the way he supported so many of us without ever expecting anything in return. His legacy is not only in his work but in the countless people he helped, encouraged, and inspired along the way.

He will be greatly missed.
